I haven't done one of these before, and because I don't really have (m)any friends proper on deviantart, it was quite a surprise.
tagged me as well as nine other people to answer ten questions which he wrote. Let's see how this turns out!
These are the rules (I wonder who wrote them? They made a typo that apparently no one has since corrected):
#1. YOU MUST POST THESE RULES!!#2. Answer the ten questions the person who tagged you made up, Then make up your own 10 questions...#3. Choose 10 people and put their icon in this JOURNAL!!!#4. Nothing like (you are tagged if you read this) it happens all the time anyway ....#5. EVERYONE TAGGED MUST MAKE A JOURNAL ENTRY!!!!Secret Rule #6. You don't need to do the above if you really don't want too. Now the questions, by raptorx863, in bold, with my non-bold answers underneath them:
1. Would you rather watch something dramatic and flashy, but dumb, or something intelligent and engaging, but tedious?
Not sure this makes sense; if a show were tedious, it wouldn't be engaging
Then again I do understand (I think) what the question is asking, to which my answer is that I would prefer a dramatic and flashy show, because in spite of its dumbness it would be more interesting to watch than a tedious one. For intelligent fiction I think books work better, because they can be put down at any time and read at a reader's own pace. I often become impatient with long and uninteresting shows and music (unless it's ambient or background music, which is a different thing) on their own as entertainment because they must be watched or listened to in one sitting.
2. Jurassic World: Did you like it? Hate it? Are you indifferent? Or have you yet to see it?
I haven't seen it and don't plan to, so I can't comment on the quality of the actual film. It is, however, very irritating that apparently no research at all has been done to make accurate animals, which appear less accurate than they were in previous installments, and that the film is perpetuating miseducation on the already grossly misunderstood subject of palaeontology. On the other hand, I do like it as a subject for complaining, which is a very fulfilling activity.
3. Who's your favorite superhero?I've always thought Spiderman and Ironman were pretty cool. I don't follow any comic books or movies pertaining to superheroes, though, so I don't know much about them.
4. Who's your favorite female character from fiction?
In honesty I don't have favourite characters in fiction. The character that stands out the most is (in novels that have them) the main characters, who aren't necessarily likable in the first place, and aren't usually female either, at least within the sample of novels I've read. I'll use exceptions to this in books I've read as the answer to this, then, so: Hermione from
Harry Potter, and Polly from
The Magician's Newphew.
5. What's your favorite Studio Ghibli film?
Spirited Away was good. It's the only one I've seen. Actually, I forgot to consider films in the previous question, and I change the answer: Chihiro was a cool character in
Spirited Away.
6. How do you think humanity's first contact with extraterrestrials will go down? Think they'll be friendly? Or will it be like every alien disaster film ever?
If the aliens are only neophyte space-travellers, any astronaut would most likely go back into their spacecraft if they saw anything moving. Not sure about a probe, though. Anything apart from that I can't guess, because us people haven't gotten that far yet and I can't really project. Of course, that's only assuming that they are humanlike, which they almost certainly wouldn't be. They might be completely unafraid of things that move, they might be a centimeter tall, they might communicate through smell! There are so many possibilities for aliens which are left woefully unexplored in fiction. To answer the question directly, I think they will be motivated by things that we won't understand, which may entail anything.
7. Speaking of the future of humanity, what do you think the future of humanity will be like? Will we perish in the near-future, or become a Type 3 Civilization?I don't know, really - it's not something I've ever thought much about. I do think, though, that, even though humans are very obviously 'just organisms' and similar to other organisms, we are very much exceptional in our ways of social organisation. Some people might find this notion arrogant and biased, which it is, but nevertheless it is true. Certain other organisms are similarly self-aware, sure, and use tools and all that, but
Homo sapiens is still at least
as smart usually moreso, and on top of that exceptionally widespread, durable, and technologically advanced, mostly on account of our cooperation and organisation, which people sometimes seem to ignore (this is not all to make any point on the rights of animals other than humans though). Civilisation, or at least worldwide, interconnected and easily intercommunicable group of civilisations, is unique to humans and is, in my opinion, definitely a Cool Thing. This wasn't so much an answer as it was a preface that got a bit long. Oh well, I just wanted to make it clear that I am not a misanthropist (insofar as I don't hate humans, which isn't to say I don't in general distrust people).
Aaah! Sorry, I'll answer the question now. I think that the only thing that will ultimately end humanity is the death of everyone (or almost everyone, so that the population will only continue decreasing) on earth, by means of a meteoroid impact or something. A disaster that destroyed an economically or politically vital country, even if it spells the collapse of modern civilisation, won't kill
everyone, and most likely another civilisation will grow from the ruins of our old one. So, if an aforementioned terminal disaster occurs before we can somehow stop it, we will probably go extinct, otherwise not
8. The character you hate most from fiction becomes your new best friend. Who is it, and how do you now deal with everyday life? Not sure how to answer this: I can't think of any truly hateful characters in any fiction I have read or seen. Whoever it may be, if I somehow became friends with a person I hate I would not be friends with them.
9. Tell me about some point in your life when you felt like you were definitely going to despise something, but when you actually ended up enjoying it.
There have been several films which I haven't wanted to watch that I have ended up watching anyway, and some of those were better than I expected. Of course, when I'm in my right mind I try not to make judgements on things that I don't know anything about. That said, I don't take chances with films that I'm not sure about unless I have to, because in general I don't like to watch films.
10. Name one of your favorite touching moments in a movie/show, and explain why you felt the way you did about it.
Can't think of one
--------------------------------------
Oh well, that turned into a nasty mess of overlong explanations and question-avoiding which I daresay no one will ever read. Now I have to write ten questions and tag ten people to answer those questions, but I won't because I can't think of anyone who would want to do it. If you want to do this feel free to ask and I'll think of some questions.
